PROJECT : STI HQ Auditorium Light, Sound and Video design and Installation - July 2009

PURPOSE : To be able to design a sound and video projection system that will fit the activities that will be held in the Auditorium (A/V room) such as seminars, lectures, audio and video presentation, live plays and movie viewing.

THE PLAN: Through our past site visits and orientation. The A/V Room was a rectangular space with bare walls and ceiling (next floor slab) which later were treated with acoustic materials to attenuate sound reflections. The proportion required the use of narrow patterned (60 to 75 degrees wide to 60 to 75 degrees vertically) high frequency wave guides to minimize the effect of strong early reflection from the sides and at the same time cover the front to back area. The mounting of the speakers were mounted at the highest possible points, clearing the beams in order to minimize sound propagation drop from front to back. We strategically placed the sub-woofers in front of and below the stage floor to maximize low frequency effects of the sound sources like movies or live presentations. A niche were constructed to accommodate the 2 units sub woofers therefore saving a lot of space.

THE GEAR : For this project, we installed a Phonic Sonic Station 16 channel mixer, a Bardl USF 228 UHF wireless microphones, Strandz snake cable, QHA power amps, Wharfedale MX 112 speakers, EVPX15 for subs, 4 units of Titan 8 for delay speakers, Behringer shark for delay, a dbx speaker controller. For lighting, we installed 24 units of Eaglefai LED Pars DMX controlled. For video, we installed an Optoma 5000 lumen DLP projector along with a 9 x 17 Grand View motorized projector screen.
